So the Mavs still have momentum?

April 15th, 2008 Posted in Avery Johnson

Another day, another odd quote from Avery. This time he has this to say about the team’s momentum going into the playoffs.

“You know what? I think our momentum was built when we played Utah,” Avery said. “That’s not an excuse, but when we looked at those games against Utah and Phoenix, and we looked at how we played and finished those games, that was a big momentum boost for us right there. So no matter what happens tomorrow night, we still feel good about where we are.”

I had no idea that a team could carry any momentum gained from a few good wins through three losses heading into the playoffs. Thankfully losses to two teams that were mailing in the season have no effect on this team. But at least we know Avery doesn’t care whether they win or lose tomorrow night against the Hornets, so they have that going for them.

Interesting scenario for the Mavs tomorrow night; they have to win against the Hornets(2-seed) to play them in the first round. But, if they lose and the Nuggets win, they end up playing LA(No. 1 seed) instead.

If that’s the case, I’d rather they play the playoff rookies New Orleans. Their regular season was nice, but the postseason is a completely different animal. That, and Dallas’ experience might prove to be too much for CP3 and Co.

I agree with Mike, I’d prefer we play NO.

I think Avery should stop making any comments, or does this guy just not know what to say. I mean he’s already saying its ok to lose tonight before they even play! What kind of a coach does that.

    Note to Avery:

Chris Paul likes to alley-oop to Tyson Chandler. Keep Damp in the game… at all times.

Oh, who am I kidding.. Avery will never get it.

Mike, that seems like a challenge for Avery to grasp that, for some reason I don’t see Damp getting a ton of minutes tonight, as AJ always does against teams who don’t have a dominant center.
