More Lakers Reaction

March 19th, 2008 Posted in Avery Johnson

Here’s a couple of quotes from Avery after last night’s game.

“We are disappointed because we don’t like coming in second. But again, every game is a playoff game and they played it early on more like they were playing for their basketball lives and we didn’t.”

“We dug ourselves a big, hole. We didn’t do anything right in the first half. We didn’t execute the game plan. We didn’t hustle enough. Just very disappointing.”

So here’s the question, why the hell wasn’t this team ready to play in the first half? Playing for your basketball lives is exactly what the Mavericks are needing to do right now. The Lakers are in a position where if they have a bad night it’s okay, because they’re in first place right now. The Mavs don’t have that excuse, especially last night. They had an opportunity to move into 6th and end the night 1/2 game behind the Lakers. If the Mavs couldn’t get up for that game then they should just tank the rest of the season and get in the lottery since this years pick that was sent to New Jersey is lottery protected.

Avery also had this to say:

“My confidence is not shaken. I think more than anything, it showed what we can do when we play the right way. Had we gotten blown out, when they had us by 22, had they kept that lead, I think we would have been severely disappointed.”

Hey Avery, you DID get blown out. It doesn’t matter that it was only a 2 point game at the end. And the team only got back into it when Avery was sitting on the bench during the 3rd quarter and let the team play a more run and gun game. His game plan in the first half didn’t work and this team got themselves back into the game. So yes Avery, you got blown out. And he should, and really better be, disappointed. You lost to a team that was missing two critically important pieces and had Vlad Radmanovic and Ronny Turiaf playing key roles. Disappointed is the least of what you should be feeling after a game like that.

Avery blows. But nothing kills me more than watching Josh Howard make that shitty shake and bake move near the top of the key and fire a 17 foot jumper. He NEVER makes the extra pass and is playing like he thinks he outta be the teams first option. He was so much more effective and more fun to root for when he was a garbage man. The knack on him outta college was that he wasn’t good at any one skill set, which was what made him so valuable to the past Mavericks teams in that he did all the little things. Not anymore.

Concerning the offensive sets from your rant last night, I can almost guarentee that whatever Paul Westphal was brought in to do to the Mavs offense, Avery has overruled him and gone back to these irritating isolation sets. These guys have got to get thier shit together.

The first round pick is lottery protected, but if the Mavs get in the lottery, Dallas sends New Jersey next year’s first round pick and it will not be lottery protected.

It’s time for Mark to realize that at this point in time Avery coaching this team is hurting us. I think a coaching move right now would give this team the lift they need. If you can’t put your finger on what player or players are causing the demise you need to put it on Avery’s back. It’s not our imagination he’s lost this team, in fact he probably officially lost it after the Golden State thumping last year. The sooner the better, maybe after we get tossed again in the first round Mark will understand it’s not a RISK to replace the coach, it’s a move in another direction.

I am almost ready to give up. I can’t keep watching this team look like crap in big games, and never hit the game winning bucket. I don’t know where to begin with Avery, he did so many things that are just so
stupid, that even the Lakers fan behind was wondering what he was doing.

1st off, he took out Dirk, Howard and Kidd at the same time at the end of the 1st, and start of the 2nd. and watched the game go from a 3pt game, to a 12pt game before we got anyone of them back in the game.
Meanwhile, Kobe never sits during a game thats close.

2nd, why does anyone but Dirk need to touch the ball on offense. Howard thinks he is Kobe out there trying to take everyone one on one, and when he gets the ball, no one else is moving, b/c everyone knows they aren’t getting the ball. he can’t pass, run a fast break, use commen sense, etc.

3rd, in the 4th quarter, during the comback, George shut Kobe down. He couldn’t even touch the ball, and if it wasn’t for Radmonivic’s 3’s we might have pulled it off. So avery decides to take George out for
Stack, even though Avery preaches D, and George was playing the best D
on the team, and Stack was playing horrible.

Terry was the one who brought us back into the game, but he didn’t play at all in the 1st half. Avery doesn’t want Kidd and Terry out there at the same time, b/c he thinks is a D liability issue, so Terry sits too
    much of the game.

Last, It’s clear Avery is clueless when he has Howard throwing the ball
in at the end of games, I mean commen sense Avery.

I could go on and on and on and on and on and on, but I leave you with
    that.

I am the best coach in the world!!!! The team wins because of my system!!!! Give me all spares we will win because I will stand up and yell the whole game. I won a championship in 1999 so I am the best. I was the best point guard ever to play the game!!!!

The time has really come for Avery to go.

Key mistakes I saw last night were:

-Tyronn Lue got a tone of minutes when we were down in the second quarter. This is great, but we need more Kidd. Then again, if you play ISO all day, Kidd is useless. Kidd isn’t made for ISO.

-As mentioned above, Devean George should have had more minutes against Kobe.

-The final two plays were the worst. On the last play why is JHO inbounding. You have one of the best passer’s in the game (Kidd), let him either pass it in, or inbounds to him. The pass from JHO was horrible.

Honestly, JHO is pissing me off so much, I wish mavs just traded him. If he wants to take jump shots from right withing the 3 point line, then he should be traded. We need a slasher who scores and creates.

Damn right Avery. These chumps don’t realize true genious. You won the ring because the point guard was the focus of the defense. Having Duncan and Robinson on the front line of that team was nothing compared to your defense. These fools will never see the true wisdom of sitting the best passer in the league to “teach him a lesson” because he made a minor defensive error in pops sises tim. You did’t want Kidd in on the last play at the end anyway. Not when you could have the worse passer in the building throw a hard knuckle curve cross court at the ankles of the tallest man in the building. Did you see that sucker break from Dirks knees to his ankles? After all, the zen master could not have anticipated that. Just like he could never anticipate the Mavs coming out flat in front of Jessica Simpson and an arena full of fans! Keep em guessing general!!!!

Fire Him now!! Why wait? The west will beat each other up, you don’t have to give up this season. Fire him today. Even if it does not work. There is no way they are going anywhere like this. What is the point in waiting???

I am absolutely disgusted at how a man’s ego allows him to drive a group of talent like this straight into the ground. This is honestly a crime to the players, the fans, and the organization. To see a team rally back from a 25 point deficit on its own, while the coach sits down and stops “coaching” for the first time in the game, is all the proof I need that his “coaching” is the one holding them back. Seriously, Avery should be charged a criminal offense for robbing fans of their time and money to watch a team play who he will never allow to win. Is there any way we can check if he’s betting against his own team? By the way he sabotages them, I wouldn’t be surprised.

Ok I’m on board now. Avery should be fired. The Mavs need to blown up. They should trade Dirk while they can get something for him and build for the future. This team needs to be blown up. A mid level stinky team. Dirk is the only one worth anything on this team.

I was very pleased when the Mavericks were boo’d off the court at halftime last night. Any of you that go to games keep that up. Any of you that know anyone who goes to games pass the word to boo every time they suck it up. These people get paid WAY too much money for playing a kids game to EVER not show up for a game no matter the opponent. It is even more inexcusable in a game that important to playoff positioning.

Keep up the booing people. In fact very soon the Mavericks consecutive sellout streak should end. Mr Cuban needs to get the message that this is not acceptable to the fans.

Pass the word everyone. Boo the hell out of em and if needed quit buying tickets.
