Mavs win and Avery does something right

The Mavericks took care of the Bobcats last night in dominating fashion, as they should. Dirk continues to be a monster ending up with 26 points and 9 boards. But more importantly is another apperence by the Real Josh Howard. Josh finishes with 24 points, 7 boards and 6 assist on 9-15 shooting as well shutting down Jason Richardson, noted Mav killer of late, who only had 11 points on 4-16 shooting. It’s so nice to see Josh playing like this again and hopefully we can see this type of play the rest of the season.
So the Mavs now have a 3 game winning streak, which doesn’t seem like much but after that little funk they had been in is good to see. Of course, it’s been 3 games they had to win and a loss in any of them would’ve resulted in an absolute torching of the team. But they’re taking care of business and even better they’re doing it in convincing fashion. Now only the Pacers and Heat stand before the Celtics, Lakers, Spurs run.
Usually I’d have a problem with all the starters going back into a game with 10 minutes left and a 25 point lead, but Avery’s reasoning actually made sense this time:
“We need minutes together… It’s not like we’ve been playing together for five years. So I found another little stretch there for three minutes where we could go back out there and work on something really specific and then we can come and sit down.”
Pretty good move it would seem, giving the guys actual game time to further get used to each other and learning the plays. If someone had gotten hurt though…

Excellent Game analysis. I simply love what Kidd’s presense has done to Damp’s game. The big man knows he will get the ball if he runs and then returns to the defensive end with motivation. This is basketball 101. Motivate the big man. If he runs, reward him. Stack is a tough guy with pride and he is also passing the ball better than he ever did so as to not look selfish in light of Kidd’s team game, and more importantly, Stack knows he will get the rock when he is open so he does not have to shoot every time he gets the rock. The concern was Jet and JOHO “getting” it. Particularly JOHO. And it may be finally sinking in. JOHO needs to realize that Dirks being the focus of the other teams defense was a contributor to his
own success. With not only a true point but a great true point in place, The days of running iso’s for JOHO on the wing are over. Perhaps he has finally got over this and losing his (on and off the court) running buddy and realizes he can get his in the flow of the game and this is his path back to the all star game as well as winning it all as a team and becoming the perimiter defensive stopper that this team really needs and JOHO’s body sayes he can be. I have been waiting for Avery to start posting Kidd. This got free throw line jumpers for Bass and others. Sure, he will have trouble keeping up with the Parkers of the world. But he can bust parker in the post and Mr. Duncan will not be so successful as a weak side shot blocker with the new Kidd to Damp thang going. Hey, I realize it was a win they should have got against a sub 500 eastern team. But I like what I see. If Damp is going to play D and the mavs are going to make the other team move their feet to play D, it bodes very very well for the mavs. I hope they do get golden state in the forst round. I don’t think Nelson has their number anymore. You just can’t catch lightning in a bottle. And just think? What better motivation for the mavs to go to the second round than beating their personal demons 4-0 or 4-1. yes I believe that. If Avery will just chill and chill some more. It’s like sex Avery, If it aint fun and it don’t feel good you are not doing it right.
