This is not good. I don’t know that it’s the end of the world just yet, but its definitely not good. I know Dirk didn’t play tonight but I don’t think excuses equal victories.

Loss against New Orleans - Kidd’s first game

Loss against San Antonio - Avery screwed us

Loss against Utah - Second day of a road back to back

Loss to Houston - No Dirk

That was just in case I’m wrong and excuses do equal victories. Look the Mavs just moved up to second in the Western Conference. Yea!

Maybe the worst thing tonight was the defense, though don’t sleep on the terrible play of Malik Allen. For the fourth game in a row Dallas gave up over a hundred points. With 7:49 remaining in the 2nd quarter Houston was shooting 68%. I don’t even know what to say about that, 68%. Just as troubling was for the millionth game in a row the other team’s best player completely dominated the game and made any Mav that tried to play defense against him look like a jackass. Tracy McGrady went for 31 points and 9 assists. Too bad the Rockets can’t start the playoffs in round 2 isn’t it Tracy. Combine his totals with Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Tim Duncan and they have stat line something like 682 points, 453 rebounds, 22,000 assists.

Maybe things will turn around. The Mavs get eight of the next nine at home; fat lot of good that did them tonight. Dirk will be back. The Mavs could be tough in playoffs. Kidd and Dirk in a seven game series could take down just about anybody. But if things don’t turn around soon we’re not going to find out. Anytime now would good fellas.

About this picture…

killer.jpg

Just for the record, this picture absolutely killed me. When I saw it the other day I felt like somebody punched me in the stomach. I’ve made it a point to blackout the 2006 NBA Finals. I can honestly say I never saw a minute of the Miami celebration, the trophy presentation, the Sportscenter highlights, not any of it. They could have given the MVP to Lindsay Lohan for all I knew. It was almost like it never happened. The playoffs that year consisted of a quick four game sweep of Memphis, Dirk’s 37 and 15 in San Antonio, Dirk’s 50 against Phoenix, and then Dallas closing out the Suns on their home floor after trailing by 18. Then it all ended, Dallas didn’t go to the Finals, it just ended. That’s how I remembered it, that’s what worked for me. Then two days ago I see this picture. I remember what happened, what the refs did to us, but mostly what the Mavs let happen. I also remember how much I believed in that team and was certain good things were going to happen for them. Nothing has been the same since. Screw that picture.

Somebody’s going to have to explain to me where these guys went.

we have one of the most talented teams in the league. That is obvious. Our problems come down to simple coaching and making strategies for each individual game. Avery lacks all of that. He is a great motivator, but that can only take you so far. I guess it took us to the finals, but didnt give us a victory. To win we need a guy that has basketball intellect, what seems to be what Avery lacks. I really hope I’m wrong.

I think Avery will take us to the promise land once more, but will the NBA(Stern) allow it? Stay tuned…

I’m a Rockets’ fan but I like everything Texas…If I’m not rooting for the Rockets, I am enthused to watch the Mavs or Spurs. After watching the Laker and Rockets game, you guys have no problem…You should have won that Lakers game, I was really disappointed to see the Mavs go down…it was a close and competitive game on the Lakers home floor….against the Rockets, we have been accustomed to playing without Yao or T-Mac for years because of injury and have become more comfortable with each other…The Mavs need a little more time to mesh and its nothing like beating up on poor teams that are coming into American Airlines center this upcoming week….Rome wasn’t built in a day and I wish you all the patience and good luck…

From an analysis standpoint, what did T-Mac’s playoff troubles have to do with anything? If you’re looking for people to take you seriously, start sounding like a professional. You just sound like an angry fan who’s run out of arguments.

You didn’t need the game recaps in your entry. Let your blog speak for itself. Keep things short; wordiness scares people away.

Here’s some free help. The Mavericks have three big problems right now:
1.) The loss of Desagana Diop leaves the Mavs without a big lane presence and shot blocker. Erick Dampier is just not good enough. If the Mavs don’t have anyone who can clog the lane, slashers, close jumpers, and dunkers will put that team away. In this state, they’d be quite vulnerable to another Warriors upset.

2.) The Mavericks are trying to incorporate a new player who hasn’t played in halfcourt sets since Saddam ruled Iraq. He’s not having a very good time adjusting to it. The loss of Devin Harris also means the loss of a talented scorer. Either he needs to change or the team needs to change.

3.) Speaking of change, that’s exactly what the Mavs need to do. You can not expect to be effective in halfcourt sets without talented big men. If the Mavs lack this (and they do), they need to change. Jason Kidd won’t change, and Brandon Bass won’t suddenly stop being a rookie. Kidd is best when he can run, and the Mavs are best when they can score. Put this together. The team needs to start running again. They can still play great D, but running is going to be the key to this team’s success. Try throwing Kidd, Terry, Howard, Bass, and Nowitzki out there. That’s not small ball, and the Mavs can really cram the ball down a team’s throat and put the pressure on if they’re aggressive. That is exactly what Kidd brings.

There… See? That wasn’t so hard. Short, sweet, and to the point.

Maybe the Mavericks are missing Del Harris. Could it be that he was really running the show in Avery’s first few years and without Del, Avery gets outcoached every game. The wins that the Mav’s have are in spite of Avery not because of Avery. If we are the Allas Mavericks again…no “D”… we need to start running again to have any chance of making the playoffs because we don’t have a chance in the half court game.

Don’t lean on the excuse, “We didn’t have Dirk.” Boo hoo! The Rockets didn’t have Yao, and everyone seems to forget that. So it was pretty much an even game. If the my little ponies were such a better team, they would have beat the Rockets last night, with or without Dirk. End of story.

The Kidd trade was the worst thing y’all could have done. Devin Harris would have run roughshod over the Rockets. Sucks to be y’all.

  9. By Shervin on Mar 7, 2008 at 11:17:18 am

For a team with 4 all stars/superstars (one was out yesterday)Dallas played like an borderline 8th seed yesterday against the Rockets. The Mavs got done up by a brittle all star and his band of merry men consisting of rookies, journeymen and a player so old they could be father to the rookies on the team. Do I need to even mention that the Rocket’s franchise player was out. Dirk was out as well but a lineup of Kidd, Howard, and Terry should dismantle most teams on any given night. Where was the heart? And where was Jkidd? 22 mil and produces 7 points and worse than that he gets lit up by Rafer Alston. Harris would have abused Houston’s slower players. Why on earth did you all trade him away?

  10. By I want to be toned. on Mar 7, 2008 at 11:29:25 am

The Mavs season directly parallels a viewing of two girls one cup. (Google it if you are not familiar with it.) When it started you were all excited because of the hype, then half way through you are disgusted, but you keep watching because it has to get better eventually. By the end (present situation) you just want to punch the screen and are so disappointed that you got sucked into it with all the hype. The new addition of Kidd is like throwing an extra element into the whole 2G1C scenario. Almost like, “Let add some corn.”

I have never been so mad at Avery as I was last night. At the end of the game, I got really pissed, and I started to heckle Avery a little. I was kind of like the guy in Major League who heckles Charlie Sheen but
is really a fan at heart.. Avery just doesn’t have a clue!!!!!

He sat Kidd the last 4min of the 1st half(Why) and he had juwan howard playing 6 min in the 2nd half and his man had 12pts in the quarter (Carl Landry), all layups, all by himself in the lane. Why does this happen?Jamal magloire isnt’ even suited up, Why?. Josh Howard is still not up to the task of
leading this team. Avery doesn’t even let Kidd bring the ball up. Why doesn’t he let Kidd post up and back his man down? He did twice last night and both times, there was a defensive 3 sec call. He also took
Kidd out and put Terry in with 4 sec left in the 1st quarter. Now I
agree, Terry should be in, but he took Kidd out and left Malik Allen in.

Our 2nd half adjustments were non existent. Terry didnt’ touch the ball
for about the 1st 8min of the 2nd half, b/c the Rockets adjusted to us
and played great D on him.

I could go on and on and on about all the things he does that doesn’t
    make sense.

He needs to be fired, the team doesn’t trust him at all, and they are
    sick of his crap

By game recaps, I means you didn’t need the
Loss against New Orleans - Kidd’s first game
Loss against San Antonio - Avery screwed us
Loss against Utah - Second day of a road back to back
Loss to Houston - No Dirk

I’m re-reading this to make sure I can understand myself from this morning.

    WHERE’S YOUR BANNERS?

  14. By Dallas mavs on Mar 11, 2008 at 6:55:25 pm

Dallas mavs, the fourth best bball team in texas sitting behind the houston comets. Time to rebuild suckers and trading harris for a career 30% FG kidd won’t help. Goddamn why isn’t mavs first place this year. Sure want to see those little ponies get kicked out of the first round by #8 seed again, whoever that 8 seed is.

  15. By Tony on Mar 11, 2008 at 9:56:32 pm

IF YOUR REGRETTING THE KIDD HARRIS TRADE THEN im right there with you. we were winning way more game with harris’ quick dribble drives to the bucket. were doing worse with kidds dribble and quick pass to a “not-ready” player. I just hope kidds able to help us in the playoffs with the west being soo hard. sometimes i wonder why the mavs are soo inconsistent.
